Mode-Locking of the Hermite-Gaussian Modes of a Nanolaser

Mode locking is predicted in a nanolaser cavity forming an effective photonic harmonic potential. The cavity is substantially more compact than a Fabry-Perot resonator with a comparable pulsing period, which is here controlled by the potential. In…

Quantum properties of light propagating in a coherent-population-oscillation storage medium

We study the propagation and storage of a quantum field using ultranarrow coherent population oscillations (CPOs) in a-type atomic medium. The predictions for classical fields are checked experimentally in a vapor at room temperature. We derive the…

Nonlinear response of a gallium phosphide nanopatterned photonic waveguide in the CW regime

The third-order Kerr nonlinear response in gallium phos-phide nanoscale waveguides is measured through continuous wave (CW) four-wave mixing. The extracted nonlinear coefficient ranges from about 800 W −1 m −1 to 1400 W −1 m −1 , consistently with…

Pulsed-laser irradiation of multifunctional gold nanoshells to overcome trastuzumab resistance in HER2-overexpressing breast cancer

BACKGROUND: HER2-overexpressing metastatic breast cancers are challenging practice in oncology when they become resistant to anti-HER2 therapies such as trastuzumab. In these clinical situations, HER2-overexpression persists in metastatic…

Superlocalization of Excitons in Carbon Nanotubes at Cryogenic Temperature

At cryogenic temperature and at the single emitter level, the optical properties of single-wall carbon nanotubes depart drastically from that of a one-dimensional (1D) object. In fact, the (usually unintentional) localization of excitons in local…
