Interplay between 5-HT4 receptors and GABAergic system within CA1 hippocampal synaptic plasticity

The type 4 serotonin receptor (5-HT4R) is highly involved in cognitive processes such as learning and memory. Behavioral studies have shown a beneficial effect of its activation and conversely reported memory impairments by its blockade. However,…

Dopaminergic neuromodulation of prefrontal cortex activity requires the NMDA receptor coagonist d-serine

Prefrontal control of cognitive functions critically depends upon glutamatergic transmission and N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, the activity of which is regulated by dopamine. Yet whether the NMDA receptor coagonist d -serine is implicated…

Robustness of mode-locking in harmonic cavity nanolasers subjected to potential distortions

We theoretically analyze the robustness to potential distortion of mode-locking in a harmonic cavity nanolaser sustaining oscillation of Hermite-Gaussian modes. Different types of imperfections of the harmonic potential that create the Hermite…

Astrocytic VMAT2 in the developing prefrontal cortex is required for normal grooming behavior in mice

Abstract Astrocytes control synaptic activity by modulating peri-synaptic concentrations of ion and neurotransmitters including dopamine and, as such, can be critically involved in the modulation of some aspect of mammalian behavior. Here we report…

P2X7-deficiency improves plasticity and cognitive abilities in a mouse model of Tauopathy

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia characterized by intracellular aggregates of hyperphosphorylated Tau protein and extracellular accumulation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides. We previously demonstrated that the purinergic receptor…
