Thales TRT & LuMIn joint laboratory

The Thales–LuMIn joint laboratory builds on a long-standing collaboration in advanced quantum and photonic technologies. One of its major focuses is the engineering of NV centers in diamond, developed within the DIADEMS theme in close synergy with the Thales TRT team. This research, which also involves CEA-DAM, paves the way for new quantum sensors sensitive to magnetic fields, temperature, or mechanical stress.

This strategic partnership has resulted in several co-owned patents, regular technology transfers (sensors, metrology, radars), and strong involvement in structuring the French diamond industry, particularly through the e-Diamant equipment of excellence. It also relies on shared experimental facilities, such as the installation of a plasma FIB in Thales TRT’s new cleanroom.

Beyond diamond, the joint laboratory develops resonant passive optical gyroscopes, Rydberg atom-based RF sensors, and innovative low-noise laser sources for radar and metrology applications. These efforts are carried out in partnership with Thales TRT, Thales AVS, and C2N, and are supported by multiple national and European funding programs.
