Intermodulation distortion in microwave phase shifters based on slow and fast light propagation in semiconductor optical amplifiers.

We show theoretically and validate experimentally the effect of filtering on the nonlinear behavior of slow and fast light links based on coherent population oscillations in semiconductor optical amplifiers. The existence of a dip in the power…

Experimental demonstration of enhanced slow and fast light by forced coherent population oscillations in a semiconductor optical amplifier.

We experimentally demonstrate enhanced slow and fast light by forced coherent population oscillations in a semiconductor optical amplifier at gigahertz frequencies. This approach is shown to rely on the interference between two different…

Measurement of the coupling constant in a two-frequency VECSEL.

We measure the coupling constant between the two perpendicularly polarized eigenstates of a two-frequency Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VECSEL). This measurement is performed for different values of the transverse spatial…

Optical determination and magnetic manipulation of single nitrogen-vacancy color center in diamond nanocrystal

The controlled and coherent manipulation of individual quantum systems is a fundamental key for the development of quantum information processing. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color center in diamond is a promising system since its photoluminescence is…

Slow light using semiconductor optical amplifiers: Model and noise characteristics

We developed an improved model in order to predict the RF behavior of the SOA valid for any experimental conditions. It takes into account the dynamic saturation of the SOA, which can be fully characterized by a simple measurement, and only relies…

Theoretical Study of the Spurious-Free Dynamic Range of a Tunable Delay Line based on Slow Light in SOA

We developed a predictive model describing harmonic generation and intermodulation distortions in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). This model takes into account the variations of the saturation parameters along the propagation axis inside…

Influence of a static magnetic field on the photoluminescence of an ensemble of Nitrogen-Vacancy color centers in a diamond single-crystal

We investigate the electron spin resonance of an ensemble of Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) color centers in a bulk diamond crystal. The four possible orientations of the NV-center in the lattice lead to different dependences on the magnitude and the…

Direct observation of the class-B to class-A transition in the dynamical behavior of a semiconductor laser

The transition between the class-B and class-A dynamical behaviors of a semiconductor laser is directly observed by continuously controlling the lifetime of the photons in a cavity of sub-millimetric to centimetric length. It is experimentally and…
