Phase Sensitive - Optical Low Coherence Interferometer: A New Protocol to Evaluate the Performance of Optical Micro-Resonators

Y. Sanogo, A.-F. Obaton, C. Delezoide, J. Lautru, M. Lièvre, J. Dubard, I. Ledoux-Rak, and C. T. Nguyen, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Vol. 31, 111-117 (2013)

We present the efficient implementation of phase sensitive-optical low-coherence interferometry to evaluate key performances (like dispersion law, coupling coefficient, optical losses, etc.) of photonic devices in general, and in particular of components based on optical micro-resonators, for both transverse electric and magnetic polarizations. Our setup was used for the characterization of vertically-coupled polymer micro-racetrack resonators. A mathematic model was developed to enhance the reliability of theoretical fitting to experimental curves, by taking into account first-order dispersion in the device under test.
